How We Started

In early 2015, after Kylie’s initial diagnosis, she started with her treatment plan which included chemo, radiation, and surgery. Once a few months of chemo passed by and her tumor was shrinking enough for surgery, we could see that the light at the end of the tunnel was getting brighter.

We felt so blessed by all the support we were receiving from the hospital, our friends and family, neighbors, strangers, the Copley school district, etc.; we knew we wanted to do something to show our appreciation.

We were also witnessing families who didn’t have the support we did, and we knew they needed help. In late spring we started talking more and more about wanting to give back to the Oncology Department at Akron Children’s Hospital as well as support the families there.

We, Carrie and Eric, are both runners and we wanted to do something that we were passionate about, something that was focused on the entire family…something that promoted family time together and family health. 

A 5k and family fun run was an easy decision and we decided we didn’t want to wait for a year to pass by…we were going to pull the first annual Kylie Rose’s Run together in less than four months and target the end of August. The community was extremely supportive and excited. It was truly awesome!

 

Thanks to our participants and sponsors, our event has raised over $300,000.00 for the patients and their families who are fighting pediatric cancer at Akron Children's Hospital. We also donate around 50% of our proceeds to pediatric cancer research. The Kylie's Bags of Love mission is also funded through our annual event.

Event Information

This year, the race will have both an in-person and virtual option, and all participants will receive a t-shirt. The in-person 5K run starts and ends at Copley High School’s stadium and will be held on August 25, 2024.

Virtual participants can run/walk their race anytime, anywhere between August 1 and August 25, 2024. Full marathon participants can divide their miles up over that time.

The Family Fun Run is a non-competitive one-mile run/walk around the track. There is also a fun, competitive one-mile run.

Throughout the duration of the 5K and Fun Run, there are fun activities on the football field for children of all ages (bounce houses, face painting, snow cones, card making, Bags of Love stuffing, golf demo, etc.).
